Compact Track Loaders (CTL)
Compact track loaders are the workhorses of construction, landscaping, and utility work. Weighing between 7,500 and 13,500 lbs for most models, they fall well within legal weight limits and can be moved efficiently on standard flatbed trailers. Their rubber or steel track undercarriages require proper blocking and tie-down placement to avoid damage during transport.

Multi-Terrain Loaders (MTL)
Multi-terrain loaders feature a lower ground-pressure undercarriage designed for sensitive surfaces such as golf courses, turf, and wetlands. Models like the Bobcat MT85 and MT100 share transport characteristics with CTLs and are hauled on the same flatbed and step deck equipment.
Full-Size Track-Type Loaders
Larger tracked loading machines — such as the Caterpillar 953 and 963 track loaders — operate in aggregate quarries, recycling yards, and mine support roles. These machines can weigh 40,000 to 55,000 lbs and typically require overweight permits and an RGN trailer for proper drive-on loading. We obtain all required state permits and plan bridge-weight-compliant routes for these heavier units.
Transport Methods
Flatbed Trailers — Standard CTL Moves
Most compact track loaders are transported on 48-foot or 53-foot flatbed trailers. Their low profile and moderate weight make flatbed the most cost-effective option. We properly block the undercarriage and use a minimum of four heavy-duty chains with binders plus edge protectors on all contact points with the tracks.
Step Deck Trailers — Height-Sensitive Loads
Step deck (drop deck) trailers lower the machine's transport height, which is useful when operating attachments are left installed or when routing through areas with lower clearances. Step decks are also ideal when loading two smaller CTLs nose-to-tail on a single trailer for fleet moves.
RGN Trailers — Large Track Loaders
Full-size track-type loaders, such as the Cat 953 or 963, require a removable gooseneck trailer for drive-on loading. The RGN's detachable neck creates a ground-level ramp, allowing the machine to drive directly onto the deck without a loading ramp or forklift — critical for a heavy machine with rubber-padded or steel link tracks.
Multi-Unit Fleet Loads
For rental companies and equipment dealers moving multiple compact track loaders at once, we can pair two smaller machines on a single 53-foot flatbed, significantly reducing cost per unit. Models under 10,000 lbs and within width limits can often be transported two at a time without an oversize permit. We assess each machine's dimensions before quoting any multi-unit load.

Loading and Securing Track Loaders
Proper loading protects both the machine and the trailer. Our drivers are experienced in the specific requirements of tracked equipment:
- Track block placement: Rubber tracks require blocking to prevent movement without crushing the track pads
- Chain hook points: We use manufacturer-designated tie-down points — never chain through bucket linkage or around cylinders
- Attachment removal: Buckets, grapples, or augers that increase transport width or height are removed before loading when possible
- Hydraulic lock-out: All hydraulic controls are locked before loading to prevent accidental arm or bucket movement in transit
Permit Requirements for Track Loaders
Most compact track loaders are within legal weight limits at 7,500–13,500 lbs operating weight — far below the 80,000 lb federal gross vehicle weight limit when loaded on a standard trailer. However, some models with extended arms, high-flow aux hydraulics, or large buckets may exceed legal width (8 feet 6 inches) and require an oversize permit for certain states.
