Hauling Volvo CE Equipment Nationwide
Volvo Construction Equipment is a global leader known for heavy-duty excavators, uniquely capable articulated haulers, and large wheel loaders — all equipment R&RM LLC transports routinely across all 48 continental states. Since 2011, we've moved Volvo CE excavators between construction sites, relocated Volvo articulated haulers to mining operations, and delivered Volvo wheel loaders to quarries, ports, and industrial facilities from the Atlantic to the Pacific.
Volvo CE stands out in the equipment world for its articulated hauler line, which is among the most widely used in North American mining and large-scale earthmoving. These ADTs (articulated dump trucks) have specific transport requirements — they're heavy, wide, and their articulated frames affect how they sit on a trailer — and we've developed solid procedures for moving them safely. Volvo's excavator line, from compact ECR machines to large EC series hydraulic shovels, follows the same transport principles as other major manufacturers but with Volvo-specific tie-down and blocking considerations.

Volvo Excavators — ECR & EC Series
Volvo's excavator lineup is split between the ECR (compact radius) series for tight jobsites and the EC series for open-site production work. Both lines deliver strong hydraulic performance and are common on commercial construction, utility, and road projects across the country.
Compact Excavators (ECR25–ECR88)
- ECR25 / ECR35 / ECR50: Ultra-compact zero-tail-swing machines at 5,500–11,500 lbs. These mini excavators transport easily on a flatbed or tag-along trailer. Multiple units can be grouped on one load for cost-efficient fleet moves between rental yard locations.
- ECR58 / ECR88: Compact production excavators at 13,200–19,800 lbs. RGN or flatbed transport; combination vehicle weight permits are rarely required for these sizes, though dimensions must still be checked against state legal thresholds. The zero-tail-swing design simplifies blocking during transport.
Mid-Size Production Excavators (EC140–EC250)
- EC140 / EC160 Series: Mid-compact excavators at 30,000–37,000 lbs. RGN transport is standard. These are workhorse machines on utility, pipeline, and municipal projects, and are frequently moved between project phases by contractors and rental companies.
- EC200 / EC220 Series: Standard production excavators at 47,000–52,000 lbs. Oversize permits for width are typical when the machine is transported with its boom stowed to the side. Route planning for bridge weight limits on secondary roads applies in most regions.
- EC250 Series: A capable mid-large excavator at 57,000–60,000 lbs. Multi-axle RGN configurations are standard; oversize permits for width and occasionally length apply in all states on a cross-country route.
Large Excavators (EC300–EC480)
- EC300 / EC350 Series: Large production excavators at 67,000–79,000 lbs. These machines push into overweight territory in states with 80,000-lb gross vehicle weight limits. Counterweight positioning and boom configuration must both be factored into the permit application and route plan.
- EC380 / EC480 Series: Volvo's heavy production excavators at 86,000–106,000 lbs. Full oversize and overweight permits are required in every state. Multi-axle RGN trailers with extended axle spacing distribute the load weight more evenly, reducing per-axle weights to manageable levels for most routes. Bridge analysis is a standard part of route planning for these machines.
Extra-Large Excavators (EC550–EC950F)
- EC550 Series: A purpose-built large production excavator at approximately 124,000 lbs. Transport requires dedicated multi-axle RGN equipment, full oversize and overweight permits in all states, and — depending on the route — advance coordination with state DOT offices for bridge crossing authorizations.
- EC750 / EC950F Series: Volvo's largest hydraulic excavators, weighing 166,000–218,000 lbs in standard configuration. These are serious transport projects requiring removal of counterweights and sometimes the boom assembly to achieve transportable dimensions and weights. A dedicated heavy-haul RGN with eight or more axles is typically required. This class is comparable in complexity to moving large Cat or Komatsu mining excavators.
Volvo Articulated Haulers — A Series
Volvo CE's articulated dump trucks are a core product in their lineup and one of the most recognizable machines on large earthmoving, mining, and quarry projects. The A-series articulated haulers are purpose-built for off-road hauling and have specific highway transport characteristics due to their articulated frames and large tire footprints.
- A25G (25-ton payload): The smallest full-size Volvo ADT at approximately 48,000 lbs empty. Highway transport on a multi-axle RGN is standard. The articulated frame sits low and loads cleanly via the removable gooseneck. Width is typically within oversize permit thresholds; combination vehicle weight will require permit in most states.
- A30G (30-ton payload): A widely used mid-range ADT at approximately 57,000 lbs. Similar transport profile to the A25G but with greater gross combination weight considerations. Oversize permits for width are standard; route planning should account for the tire width on secondary routes.
- A35G (35-ton payload): One of the most common Volvo ADTs in North American quarry and mining operations at approximately 68,000 lbs. Full oversize permits for width apply; combination vehicle weight exceeds legal limits in all states and requires overweight permit. Multi-axle RGN with adequate deck length for the long body is required.
- A40G (40-ton payload): A large high-volume ADT at approximately 80,000 lbs. The machine's width and length both drive oversize permit requirements. The articulated body configuration may influence how the load must be positioned and chained for highway movement.
- A45G / A60H (45- and 60-ton payload): Volvo's largest articulated haulers. The A60H in particular — one of the largest ADTs in the world — weighs over 140,000 lbs empty and is classified as a serious overweight transport project. Counterweight removal is required for highway transport, and route analysis for bridge capacities is mandatory. Rear escort vehicles are required by state law on most routes due to the machine's width and weight.
Volvo Wheel Loaders — L Series
Volvo's L-series wheel loaders are used extensively at ports, quarries, recycling facilities, aggregate yards, and construction sites. They range from compact machines for tight indoor applications to large loaders that move significant material volumes on every pass.
- L45H / L50H / L60H (Small Loaders): Compact wheel loaders at 17,000–27,000 lbs. These machines are commonly transported for rental companies and dealers. Multiple units can often move on a single trailer, reducing per-unit transport cost.
- L70H / L90H (Mid-Compact Loaders): Versatile production loaders at 29,000–37,000 lbs. RGN transport with combination weight permit is typical. Bucket width can trigger oversize permits depending on bucket size installed.
- L110H / L120H / L150H (Production Loaders): Mid-large loaders at 42,000–57,000 lbs. Oversize permits for width and combination weight are standard. These loaders are frequently transported to and from port operations, aggregate plants, and large construction sites.
- L180H / L220H (Large Loaders): Heavy production loaders at 64,000–84,000 lbs. Full oversize and overweight permits are required in all states. Bucket removal is sometimes necessary to reduce overall width to a manageable oversize load dimension.
- L260H / L350H (Extra-Large Loaders): Volvo's largest wheel loaders at 95,000–140,000 lbs. These machines are used primarily in quarry, port, and aggregate operations. Highway transport requires heavy multi-axle RGN equipment, full oversize and overweight permits, and in most states a rear escort vehicle. Bucket and sometimes counterweight removal are required for transport.
Volvo Motor Graders — G Series
Volvo G-series motor graders are used on road maintenance, site grading, and airport work. Their long wheelbases and wide blades create the same oversize transport requirements as other graders:
- G930 / G940 Series (Mid-Size Graders): Production graders at 32,000–38,000 lbs. RGN transport; blade width typically triggers oversize width permits. Overall length requires checking against state maximum vehicle length statutes.
- G960 / G976 / G990 Series (Large Graders): Volvo's larger graders at 43,000–53,000 lbs. Width and length oversize permits are standard in all states. The all-wheel-drive G976 and G990 models have additional weight considerations from their front-axle drive systems.
Transport Methods for Volvo CE Equipment
- RGN (Removable Gooseneck) Hauling: The standard method for Volvo CE excavators, articulated haulers, and wheel loaders. Drive-on loading eliminates crane requirements and keeps equipment handling simple and safe.
- Flatbed Transport: Compact Volvo excavators and small wheel loaders can move on flatbed trailers, often with multiple units per load to reduce shipping cost.
- Oversize & Overweight Transport: Large Volvo CE equipment — EC380 and larger excavators, A35G and larger articulated haulers, L180H and larger wheel loaders — require state-issued oversize and overweight permits for every state on the route. We handle all permit procurement.
- Pilot Car Escorts: Required by state law for loads exceeding certain width or weight thresholds. Our permit and pilot car service coordinates all required escort vehicles for large Volvo CE loads.
Why R&RM LLC for Volvo CE Transport?
R&RM LLC has been transporting heavy construction equipment, including Volvo CE machinery, since 2011, serving all 48 continental states for contractors, equipment dealers, rental companies, quarry operators, and mining companies. Volvo CE's articulated hauler line is one of our specialties — these machines are common on large earthmoving and mining projects throughout the Southeast and Midwest, and we've developed efficient procedures for loading, chaining, and routing them.
For Volvo excavators, we know which EC-series models have specific tie-down point locations, how to properly block and brace them for long-haul transport, and how to route oversize loads around weight-restricted routes. For the articulated haulers, we understand the permitting complexity of moving wide, heavy A-series trucks across state lines and coordinate all necessary permits in advance to avoid delays at weigh stations or state borders.
Whether you're a Volvo CE dealer moving trade-in equipment between locations, a quarry operator relocating an A35G, or a contractor delivering a new EC380 to a job site in another state, R&RM LLC provides the equipment, experience, and permit coordination to move it safely.
