Paving Equipment Hauling Services
Road construction projects depend on getting the right equipment to the right place on schedule. Whether you are moving an asphalt paver from a completed highway job to the next state or transporting a cold planer to a major airport rehabilitation project, US Heavy Haul provides reliable, permit-ready transport for the full spectrum of paving machinery.
R&RM LLC has operated out of Cumming, Georgia since 2011, building experience with the wide variety of paving equipment that moves across the 48 continental states. Asphalt pavers and cold planers frequently require oversize permits due to their width, and compactors with their drum assemblies need careful securement to prevent any rolling. We handle the routing, permits, and pilot cars so your equipment arrives safely and on time.

Asphalt Pavers We Transport
Asphalt pavers are among the most common paving equipment we haul. Their wide screed extensions, tracked undercarriages, and relatively low ground clearance make RGN trailers the preferred transport method. We haul pavers from all major manufacturers:
Caterpillar Pavers
Cat's AP series pavers are workhorses on highway and commercial paving jobs across North America. Common models we haul include:
- AP300F / AP355F: Compact commercial pavers, approximately 24,000–28,000 lb operating weight. Width up to 18 ft with extended screeds.
- AP600F / AP655F: Mid-range pavers for highway and large commercial work, 33,000–38,000 lb.
- AP1000F / AP1055F: Large highway-class pavers, 42,000–55,000 lb. Screeds can extend beyond 26 ft, typically requiring oversize width permits.
- AP1155F: Large highway paver with Mobil-Trac undercarriage, approximately 60,000 lb.
Volvo Pavers
Volvo's P-series pavers are common on DOT highway projects from the Southeast through the Midwest. Models include:
- P4370C / P4410C: Compact tracked pavers, 22,000–26,000 lb.
- P6820D / P7110D: Standard highway pavers, 30,000–42,000 lb.
- P8820D / P8820C: High-production highway pavers, up to 55,000 lb with extended screed attachments.
Roadtec & Vogele Pavers
Roadtec RP-series pavers and Wirtgen Group's Vogele Super series are frequently used on high-specification federal and state highway projects. The Vogele Super 1800-3i and 1900-3i are large machines that often exceed standard width limits and require overdimensional permits in multiple states.
Dynapac Pavers
Dynapac F-series and SD-series pavers are popular in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Their compact footprint often allows transport without width permits, though extended screed configurations still require routing review.
Cold Planers and Milling Machines
Cold planers — also called milling machines or road mills — are among the heaviest and most dimensional paving support machines we transport. Their large milling drums, conveyor booms, and wide cutting widths frequently push into oversize territory on all dimensions.
Caterpillar Cold Planers
- PM310 / PM312: Small cold planers for patching and utility cuts, 26,000–32,000 lb.
- PM620 / PM622: Mid-size planers with 2-meter cutting width, 75,000–88,000 lb. These commonly require overweight permits.
- PM820 / PM822: Large highway mills with 2-meter cutting width, 95,000–110,000 lb. These are among the heaviest wheeled paving machines we haul and require multi-axle RGN configurations plus overweight permits.
Wirtgen Cold Planers
Wirtgen's W series is the industry leader in large-format cold planing. The W 200 and W 250 are high-production highway mills weighing 90,000–120,000 lb. Their conveyor booms extend well beyond the machine body, requiring careful permit routing and occasionally a rear escort vehicle. The smaller W 100 and W 150 are more manageable at 55,000–75,000 lb but still frequently exceed standard width limits.
Compactors and Rollers
Compaction equipment is a staple of every paving project, and we regularly transport the full range from small vibratory plate compactors to large pneumatic tire rollers.
Asphalt Rollers
- Tandem Vibratory Rollers (Cat CB-series, Dynapac CC-series, Bomag BW-series): These double-drum compactors typically weigh 8,000–25,000 lb and fit comfortably on a standard flatbed or step-deck. Multiple units can often be grouped on one trailer.
- Combination Rollers: One drum plus pneumatic tires — common on finish passes. Weight range 11,000–26,000 lb.
- Pneumatic Tire Rollers (Cat CW-series, Hamm GRW-series): Used for breakdown and intermediate compaction on asphalt mat. Large pneumatic rollers can weigh 30,000–45,000 lb with ballast.
Soil Compactors
- Padfoot Compactors (Cat CS and CP-series, Bomag BW 211–226): Base preparation machines that travel on paving projects alongside pavers. Mid-size units weigh 20,000–35,000 lb.
- Large Padfoot Rollers (Cat CP74B, Komatsu BW219DH-5): Heavy compactors used on large subbase compaction contracts, 40,000–50,000 lb.
Road Wideners and Thermal Transfer Vehicles
Road Wideners
Road wideners are specialized machines used to pave shoulders, widen existing lanes, and add turning lanes without full-depth reconstruction. Manufacturers include Weiler E1250 and E1650, and Roadtec SW-850. These machines typically weigh 30,000–45,000 lb and may require width permits when the feeder conveyor extension is attached.
Material Transfer Vehicles
Material transfer vehicles (MTVs) such as the Roadtec Shuttle Buggy SB-2500 and the Caterpillar PS-360B are critical on high-specification highway projects to prevent segregation in the asphalt mat. They are tall, heavy machines (50,000–60,000 lb) with elevated conveyor systems that often require height permits as well as width permits. Route surveys through low overpasses are standard for these loads.
Trailer Options for Paving Equipment
RGN (Removable Gooseneck) Trailers
The RGN trailer is the preferred choice for tracked pavers and most cold planers. The detachable neck allows the machine to drive directly onto the deck under its own power, eliminating the need for a crane or heavy-lift equipment. Standard RGN trailers can carry up to 80,000 lb; multi-axle RGN configurations carry 100,000 lb and above for the heaviest cold planers.
Step-Deck Trailers
Smaller compactors, tandem rollers, and wheeled asphalt spreaders frequently move on 48-ft or 53-ft step-deck trailers. The lower deck height (approximately 42 inches from ground to deck) provides more height clearance for tall machines.
Oversize and Overweight Hauling
Wide-screed pavers, large cold planers, and material transfer vehicles regularly require oversize load permits due to width, and the heaviest mills and MTV units may require overweight permits across bridge-restricted corridors. Our permit services team handles state permit applications, route surveys, and pilot car coordination so your project timeline stays intact.

States We Serve
Paving season follows the weather, so our paving equipment hauls concentrate in the Southeast and Southwest during winter and shift to the Great Plains, Midwest, and Northeast from spring through fall. We hold authority in all 48 continental states and coordinate permits with every state DOT's oversize/overweight permitting division.
Key paving corridors include the I-95 corridor from Florida to Maine, the I-10 corridor from California to Georgia, and Midwest highway resurfacing programs in Illinois, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan. We regularly move paving equipment between these regions as crews follow the construction season.
Pricing for Paving Equipment Hauling
Paving equipment transport costs vary based on machine type, dimensions, weight, and the origin-to-destination lane. A tandem roller moving 500 miles on a standard flatbed typically runs $2,500–$4,500. A large highway paver on an RGN with width permits over a 1,000-mile corridor commonly runs $7,000–$12,000. Full-size cold planers requiring overweight permits and pilot cars can reach $15,000–$25,000 or more depending on permit complexity and bridge restrictions along the route.
