Hauling Kobelco Excavators Nationwide
Kobelco Construction Machinery — a subsidiary of Kobe Steel — is a dedicated excavator manufacturer producing the well-known SK series lineup, one of the most respected excavator brands in North America. Unlike many heavy equipment manufacturers that produce a broad range of machine types, Kobelco focuses exclusively on hydraulic excavators, and that specialization shows in the quality and performance of their machines. R&RM LLC transports Kobelco excavators across all 48 continental states for construction contractors, equipment dealers, rental companies, and utility operators — a service we have provided since 2011.
Kobelco excavators are found on commercial building sites, highway projects, utility installations, residential developments, and demolition operations throughout the country. The SK series covers a complete range from compact urban mini excavators to large production machines used on major earthmoving contracts. Whatever model you need moved, we have the RGN trailer, permit experience, and routing knowledge to get it there safely.

Kobelco SK Mini Excavators (SK17SR–SK85MSR)
Kobelco's compact and mini excavator lineup uses zero-tail-swing (SR) and short-tail-swing (MSR) designs built specifically for congested urban jobsites, utility work, and confined-space excavation. These machines are among the most commonly transported Kobelco models because rental companies and utility contractors move them frequently between project phases:
- SK17SR / SK20SR / SK27SR: Ultra-compact zero-tail-swing excavators at 3,900–6,000 lbs. Multiple units travel together on a single flatbed or lowboy load, making fleet repositioning for rental companies cost-efficient. These machines fit through standard gate openings and are common in urban residential and commercial utility work.
- SK35SR / SK45SR: Small zero-tail-swing excavators at 7,700–10,100 lbs. Flatbed transport is standard; combination vehicle weights are well within legal limits in all states. Kobelco's SK35SR is widely used for landscaping, small utility projects, and tight-access demolition.
- SK55SRX / SK75SR: Mid-compact excavators at 12,400–17,200 lbs. Flatbed or RGN transport; easy to load and secure. These machines are popular on utility and pipeline projects and frequently relocated between project phases throughout the year.
- SK85MSR: The largest of Kobelco's mini series at approximately 19,000 lbs. A capable production machine for its class, often moving with rental company inventory. Flatbed or tag-along transport; combination vehicle weight stays within legal thresholds in all states.
Kobelco SK Compact Production Excavators (SK135SR–SK210LC)
The SK135SR through SK210LC range is the heart of Kobelco's North American market presence. These are high-production machines found on a huge variety of commercial construction, utility, and infrastructure projects across the country. They are also among the most frequently transported Kobelco models:
- SK135SR: One of Kobelco's most popular models in North America at approximately 30,000 lbs. The zero-tail-swing design makes it useful in tight urban spaces while delivering genuine production-class digging force. RGN transport is standard; oversize permits for width are straightforward to obtain in all states, with most states processing standard permits in 1–3 business days.
- SK140SR / SK140SRLC: A close sibling to the SK135SR with long carriage option; approximately 31,000–33,000 lbs. Same transport logistics as the SK135SR. These machines are common on utility, storm drain, and site development projects.
- SK170LC / SK175LC: Standard long-carriage production excavators at approximately 38,000–40,000 lbs. RGN hauling with oversize permits for width. These machines are workhorses on commercial site development and road construction projects, and their long carriage provides stability during drive-on RGN loading.
- SK210LC / SK210NLC: Kobelco's flagship mid-size production excavator at approximately 47,000–49,000 lbs. The SK210 is one of the most transported excavator models in North America across all brands. Oversize permits for width plus combination vehicle weight permit required in most states. We move SK210s regularly on routes throughout the Southeast and across the country.
Kobelco SK Mid-Size to Large Excavators (SK250NLC–SK350LC)
Kobelco's SK250 through SK350 range are serious production machines found on larger commercial construction, pipeline, and mining support projects. Transport complexity increases in this weight class:
- SK250NLC / SK260LC: Production excavators at approximately 55,000–59,000 lbs. Multi-axle RGN configurations handle weight distribution for this class. Oversize permits for width and combination weight permits required in all states transited. Permit procurement typically takes 3–5 business days for multi-state moves.
- SK300LC / SK330LC: Large production excavators at approximately 67,000–73,000 lbs. These machines are used on major site development, quarry, and heavy construction contracts. Full oversize and overweight permits required; bridge weight clearances must be verified on non-Interstate routes. We handle all routing and permit work as part of every transport arrangement.
- SK350LC / SK350NLC: High-production excavators at approximately 79,000–82,000 lbs. The SK350 is found on large road construction, pipeline, and aggregate operations. Rear escort vehicles are required by most states at this weight class. We coordinate all escorts through our permit and escort coordination service.
Kobelco SK Large & Mining-Class Excavators (SK400LC–SK850LC)
Kobelco's largest SK series machines are designed for high-production quarry, mining support, and major infrastructure projects. Transport of these machines requires heavy specialized equipment and significant advance planning:
- SK400LC / SK480LC: Large production excavators at approximately 88,000–107,000 lbs. Heavy multi-axle RGN equipment is required. Full oversize and overweight permits in all states transited; state DOT advance notification may be required in some states. Counterweight removal is often required to reduce axle loads to permitted thresholds.
- SK500LC / SK550LC: High-capacity excavators at approximately 118,000–125,000 lbs. These machines are found on large quarry benches, major pipeline projects, and mine site earthmoving operations. Full permit package required in every state; rear and sometimes front escorts mandated by state law. Advance planning of 1–2 weeks is typical for multi-state moves at this weight.
- SK850LC: Kobelco's largest production excavator at approximately 188,000 lbs in standard configuration. The SK850 is a full mining-class machine that typically requires counterweight removal and boom disassembly for highway transport. Each major component — the undercarriage, upper structure, boom, arm, and counterweight — is transported as a separate permitted load. Coordinating an SK850 move means managing multiple permit applications, scheduling all loads, and sequencing deliveries so the machine can be assembled at the destination in the correct order. R&RM LLC coordinates with customers well ahead of these moves to ensure all planning is complete before the first load departs.
Transport Methods for Kobelco Excavators
- RGN (Removable Gooseneck) Hauling: The preferred transport method for most tracked Kobelco SK excavators from the SK135SR class up through the SK500 range. The removable gooseneck allows the excavator to drive directly onto the trailer deck under its own power for safe, efficient loading without external crane equipment. Kobelco's long-carriage LC configurations load particularly well on RGN equipment due to their stable footprint.
- Flatbed Transport: Kobelco mini and compact excavators from the SK17SR through SK85MSR range can be transported on flatbed trailers, often with multiple units per load. The zero-tail-swing SR designs are especially easy to secure safely on flatbed equipment due to their compact swing radius.
- Oversize & Overweight Transport: All Kobelco SK250 and larger excavators require state oversize and overweight permits on every state transited. We handle all permit procurement, routing, and state coordination as part of every transport arrangement — you do not need to manage the permit process separately.
- Pilot Car Escorts: Required by state law when loads exceed defined width or weight thresholds — which applies to most Kobelco machines in the SK350 class and above. Our permit and escort coordination service arranges all required pilot car vehicles for every state on the route.
- Multi-Load Disassembly Projects: Kobelco SK500 and larger excavators, including the SK850LC, are transported in multiple disassembled loads. We manage permitting, scheduling, and delivery sequencing for each component load to ensure the machine arrives ready for reassembly at the destination.
